OUR DOCTORS

Our doctors are specialist General Practitioners that is, they have two medical degrees - a primary medical degree (MBBS) and their General Practice Specialist degree (FRACGP). This correlates to a minimum of ten years medical training. Our doctors also have additional training in various areas to assist our patients with specific health care needs.

All our doctors participate in regular continuing education to keep up to date with the latest medical information and treatments. The latest in medical equipment and highly trained nursing staff are available to assist in your care. We take the quality of care we offer our patients very seriously so all our systems and processes are designed to ensure you receive the best quality care available.

Dr Mary Ellwood (M.B., B.S, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P)

Women’s Health, Family Medicine

Dr Mary Ellwood has worked in General Practice since 1974 and since 1992 at this practice. She also worked at Family Planning Qld for 28 years, most of that time as an instructing doctor. She enjoys all aspects of General Practice and firmly believes in the importance of preventative health care. Mary has a special interest in women’s health especially during the peri menopausal years.

Dr Maree Patane (MBBS, FRACGP)

Allergies, Asthma, Women’s and Paediatric Health, Preventative Health Care, Mental Health Care

Dr Maree Patane graduated from the University of Queensland. Earlier in her GP training, she developed an interest in Women's Health gaining a certificate in Fertility Regulation and Sexual Health from Family Planning. She worked in University Designated Diving Medical Examiner performing medicals for Recreational Divers. Maree has particular interests in Preventative Health Care and Allergies.

Dr Andrew Skerman (MB BS, FRACGP, Dip Rural Med, DRANZCOG)

Dr Skerman graduated from the University of Queensland in 1983. Andrew has post graduate specialist qualifications in General Practice and diplomas in Obstetrics and Rural Medicine. He has worked in a variety or practice locations from rural Queensland to the national capital. Andrew has moved to Brisbane following his wife's appointment to a senior position at Clayfield College. His special areas of interest include skin cancer diagnosis and treatment, minor surgery, women's health/obstetrics (including IUD-Mirena and Implanon insertion) and child health. Andrew is experienced in and enjoys all aspects of general practice.

Dr Mary White (MBBS, FRACGP)

Aged Care, Family Medicine, Women’s and Paediatric Health

Dr Mary White joined the practice in 2003 after moving north to settle locally in Brisbane. Mary is interested in all aspects of General Practice, particularly the care of children, women and the elderly.

Dr Greg Reed (MBBS)

Men’s Health, Skin & Mole Checks, Sports Medicine, Work Injuries, Corporate Pre-employment medicals

Dr Greg Reed has special interests in Skin Cancers, Minor Operations, Men's Health and Sports Medicine. Greg has a specific role at the practice in the area of work injuries and rehabilitation. He performs numerous pre-employment medicals for companies.

Dr Mary-Jane Stanley (MBBS, FRACGP)

Women’s and Paediatric Health, Family Medicine, Contraception

Dr Mary-Jane Stanley has worked in general practice since 1993. After graduating in 1987 she trained in paediatrics. She has also worked part time in family planning and the Adelaide children's hospital. Mary-Jane enjoys all aspects of general practice and has a special interest in women and children’s health. Dr Stanley has experience in Implanon® insertion and removal and also works part time at Qld Family Planning. Dr Mary Jane Stanley is also a member of the Australasian Menopause Society.
Dr Philip Smith (MBBS, FRACGP)

General Practice and Musculoskeletal Medicine

Dr Smith trained in Brisbane and worked in country general practice and anaesthetics in NSW for many years. Philip has particular interests in general practice and musculoskeletal medicine.
Dr Ross Johnston (B.A., M.B., B.Ch., B.A.O., D.M.R.D.)

Graduated from Trinity College Dublin. He enjoys working in all areas of family medicine & has 30 years experience. Special areas of interest include preventative medicine, skin cancer, respiratory problems & allergy.
Dr Maria Boulton (MB BS, B Sc, FRACGP)

Dr Maria Boulton completed her medical degree at The University of Queensland in 2002. She has worked in General Practice since 2005 and is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Dr Maria Boulton enjoys and has experience in all aspects of general practice. Her experience includes working at the Well Women's/Family Planning Clinic in Mackay. This clinic specialises in contraception advice, preconception advice, fertility, menopause, pap smears and osteoporosis. She has also assisted private general surgeons and gynaecologists in surgery, and has worked in a skin cancer clinic. She is proficient at performing skin cancer checks and performing mole excisions. She also has experience in travel medicine.

She has always enjoyed working with children and young adults, all the more so, since starting her own family. She has a special interest in the management of food allergies, eczema anaphylaxis and asthma in children. She has provided education sessions on asthma, anaphylaxis and menopause to community groups and primary schools.

She is a big believer in preventive medicine, continuity of care and ongoing education. She highly values good communication between patients, doctors, allied health providers and specialists.

Dr Maria Boulton tambien habla Espanol (also speaks Spanish fluently).

She is very excited to become part of the Ascot Family Practice community.
